"With that much cash, who'd miss a few
grand here or there? Like, besides the mob?"
Vegas – a name, a city, a state of mind that conjures
up images of cool men, cool cash, and cool schemes - and one
cool con man, Vegas Jackman.
Vegas Jackman is THE OUTSIDEMAN, the fourth short from writer/director
Matthew Kadish. This moody film stars Jeremy Renner (DAHMER),
James McEachin (FIRST MONDAY, SUDDEN IMPACT), John Gallucci
(OCEAN’S ELEVEN, CASINO), Billy Drago (THE UNTOUCHABLES,
DECEIVERS), and Michael Tylo (INTREPID, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL);
was produced by Rosalee Mayeux; features cinematography by Marco
Fargnoli (TIME OF FEAR, STRING THEORY); and features a jazzy
score from Paul Kadish, in an evocative story of a scheme that
goes very wrong – but for who?
In so many ways, Vegas Jackman is the embodiment of the city
he was named after. Cocky, with a bit of flash, Vegas has decided
to scam Bully Malone, bagman for the Bazarian Brothers, and
Malone’s not a wiseguy to be taken lightly. In his namesake
city, the house always wins, but both Bully Malone and Vegas
are vying for the mortgage in this taut drama. Vegas enlists
Conrad Coleman, a world weary, been there, done that kind of
guy, who tries to point out the error of his ways, and his scheme,
to Vegas.
It soon becomes clear that teacher and pupil, winner and loser,
the house and the mark are not as easy to discern as they are
at a craps table. In this cool, tightly wound story, it might
not be the house that wins, but THE OUTSIDEMAN who takes home
the jackpot.
